On Thursday morning, March 11, 2021, Melissa unfortunately suffered a massive stroke. After emergent treatment, numerous brain scans, blood tests and heart tests, Melissa was diagnosed with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). This is an immune condition that causes her blood to form clots in her arteries, veins and organs. The area in the brain that was most effected was her language and communication center. For this reason, Melissa has lost most of her ability to speak. With speech therapy, Melissa was on the road to recovery and improving daily with her communication. On Saturday, March 20th, she started to decline. An emergent MRI was done and showed that Melissa’s stroke had progressed, and she had developed even more micro clots in her brain. Because of this, she’s had to undergo multiple plasma exchange transfusions in hopes of preventing additional clots from forming and giving her a better chance at recovery. As you can imagine, this has been devastating for Melissa’s family. Melissa will likely be in the hospital for many weeks recovering with Matt and family at her bedside and their sweet son, Mason, at home. She will need several months of physical and speech therapy. She is unable to work and Matt is also out of work in order to care for her and their son. We are praying for a full recovery for our beautiful girl.
